Preface

iOS devices (iPhone, iPad) share the same internet access solution. They all need to download appropriate software and import codes to get online. The appropriate software (Shadowrocket, Quantumult) needs to switch to the US App Store for download.

Don't ask why it has to be so troublesome. Proxy tools have been banned in the Chinese App Store. The so-called "free" tools you can easily download are either buggy or will stop service later. The logic is simple: anything you can download in the Chinese App Store is destined to be temporary and has plenty of bandwidth. The biggest cost of tools in the Chinese App Store is getting on the store and advertising. The service? The tools can be taken down anytime so why bother? When all costs are spent on getting on the Chinese App Store and advertising, how can they not rip you off?

For example, the currently most popular free tool in China:

1. Register with Bird Flock

In WeChat, add admilk47 as friend and provide your email. Bird Flock will send an activation email. Or register directly at this link.

Check your email for the Bird Flock activation code. Only activated trial/paid accounts can get node configs. Importing the config to the app is required to get online. Downloading the app itself is not enough.

The verification email looks like this 👇:

2. Switch to US App Store Account

Switching to the US App Store is to download Shadowrocket and Quantumult mentioned above.

If you have installed either one before, you can skip this step and go to Step 3 to import nodes directly.

There are techniques to switch accounts. We only need to download apps so there is no need to switch the entire phone to US account, as that involves findmyphone, iCloud sync and other complications. The safest way is to only switch the App Store account.

Go to the App Store, click the profile picture at top right.

3. Download Apps

After logging in, download Shadowrocket and Quantumult mentioned above. Recommend downloading Quantumult first. Having a backup is always good and it won't take up too much space.

4. Import Configs

There are auto-import and manual import for configs. As the name suggests, auto-import is more convenient but may fail due to unknown reasons. Manual import is provided as a backup option.

Auto-Import

On mobile, visit Bird Flock. After logging in, find the "Easy Import" box by scrolling down on the homepage.

Auto import

Click the prompt for the app you have installed. For example if you only have Shadowrocket, click the Shadowrocket prompt. Same for Quantumult. If you have both, click both prompts.

After successful import, you will be redirected back to the app. Turn on the switch to start using it.

Manual Import

If auto-import fails, try manual import. Visit Bird Flock and click "Copy Config" to get the node code. Send it to your phone.

Or check your email for the node config code.

  • Quantumult

After copying the long node code, open Quantumult and click the settings button at bottom left. Then click "Servers".

Click the + button at top right. Click URI Import in the first row.

When you see foreign city names, the nodes are added. The A Area, B Area etc represent different IP addresses. Go back to Quantumult's home screen. The switch at top right turns it on/off. The circle in the middle switches nodes.

Turn on the switch. The system will ask if you want to allow the config. Select Allow! Otherwise it's pointless. If there's no prompt, then you've added configs before. The setup is done. Turn on the switch and you can get online!

  • Shadowrocket

If you want to use Shadowrocket, the steps are even simpler. Copy the long node code from above. Open Shadowrocket and it will prompt to automatically add the code.

Click add to finish the setup. Select the node you want. The yellow dot indicates your selection. Finally, turn on the switch at top right.

Turn on the switch. The system will ask if you want to allow the config. Select Allow! Otherwise it's pointless. If there's no prompt, then you've added configs before. The setup is done. Turn on the switch and you can get online!
